Students will learn a brief history of cells and how they became the basic unit of life. They will learn why cells are so small, the basic parts of all cells, and the two different types of cells.

Introduction

Students will fill in a KWL chart about cells with a partner.

Instruction

Students will learn about the history of cell discovery. They will be introduced to cells and cell theory. They will then calculate surface area-to-volume ratios. After that, students will discuss the cell membrane, cytoplasm, organelles, and genetic material (DNA).

Quiz

Review the basic characteristics of cells with 10 multiple-choice questions.

Closing

Students will recall what they learned by filling out the L section of the KWL chart from the introduction.
