General

Do you know that some scientists estimate that 2/3rds of plant-life on Earth resides in rainforests? By itself, the Amazon has been estimated to contain a staggering 80,000 species of plants!

Rainforest plants are important not just for the animals that live in the rainforest. Rainforests are sometimes referred to as "natures' pharmacy" due to the amount of natural medicines that have been discovered from rainforest plants.

Rainforests also play a critical role in fighting climate change due to the amount of carbon dioxide they absorb.

Learning Objective

Students will know about different plants of the rainforest.

Guided practice

A matching problem at the end of the lesson asks students to match common items with the rainforest plants that help make them.

Closing

At the end of the lesson, students are asked to reflect on common rainforest plants, why they are important, and what we can do to help save our rainforests.
