Students will be able to read and spell words with with -ough and -eigh.
Introduction
Students will listen to and read -ough and -eigh words with different variations of the sounds. They will discuss why it is important to recognize these "rulebreaker" words so they know how to pronounce them.
Instruction
Students will sort -ough words according to their sounds: "ooh," "oh," and "uff." They will drag -ough words to their matching pictures. They will also fill in the blanks with the correct -ough words. They will do similar activities with -eigh words. Students will then review the sounds -ough and -eigh make in different words.
