Instruction

Students begin by working with the penny and nickel. They learn the head and tails using the Flip Tile. They also learn a fact about the coins such as some older pennies have wheat on the back. They practice identifying the penny and nickel by sorting them into two groups. Continuing on, they learn about the dime and quarter. Using the spinner and dice, they complete an activity collecting and sorting these two coins. Next, the students learn the value of the coins and answer questions along with a matching exercise. They are encouraged to look at the actual coins with a magnifying glass. They discuss how they are alike and different regarding their size, color, etc. A final practice has students following directions that require them to identify the coins.

Quiz

Students respond to ten multiple-choice and true/false questions.
