The students learn to memorize the 4 times table.

Learning objective

Students will memorize the 4 times table and be able to quickly give its products.

Introduction

Drag the dog through the maze to get to his bone. The dog can only make steps of 4 at a time (0,4,8,12, and so on). He can travel left to right and vice versa and up and down. He cannot travel diagonally.

Instruction

First have the students solve the products from the 4 times table within 5, 4, and 3 seconds. Then show the pile of cards. Explain that you are going to start the timer and remove the cover to show the first problem. Have the students solve the problem correctly and drag the card aside to show the next problem. Try to complete the cards within the time given by the timer.

Check whether the students have memorized the 4 times table with the following question:

The students test their memorization of the 4 times table with 3 exercises.

Closing

Discuss once again the importance of memorizing the 4 times table. Finally, discuss with the students which product from the 4 times table belongs with each answer.

Teaching tips

Give students that have difficulty memorizing the 4 times table a printed copy of the 4 times table. Have them practice using a timer in pairs, and giving products in shorter and shorter amounts of time.
