In this lesson, students will learn about acids and bases, and how to distinguish between them.

Learning objective
Students will be able to describe the different properties of acids and bases.
Introduction
Students will complete a KWL chart about acids and bases.
Instruction
We will start by dispelling some myths about acids and bases—that they’re all dangerous, toxic chemicals. Students will be introduced to the concept of acids and bases through their natural application in daily life. They will learn the definitions and properties of acids and bases. Students will learn about how we use indicators to tell us when a substance is acidic or basic. Students will learn how acids and bases neutralize one another through both conceptual examples and using chemical formulas. They will also differentiate between strong and weak acids/bases. They will finish by researching different acidic and basic substances in their everyday lives.

Closing
