General

Standards
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.K.3c

Learning objective
Students will be able to recognize and read the words "ran," saw" and "under."

Introduction
Students begin by reviewing previously learned sight words (Pre-primer words). Then, they will discuss sight words and explain that knowing sight words will make reading easier because sometimes it is not possible to sound them out. Sight words are words that are very frequent in stories or texts.

Instruction
The lesson goes through the same process for each of the three sight words. First, the word is introduced and used in sentences. After that, students will look at and say the word. They will clap, stomp, or snap while spelling the words. Students then practice writing the word. Complete the word by filling in the missing letters. Then students will do a couple of fun dragging activities that involve identifying these sight words.

Quiz
Students are given 10 multiple-choice questions in which they are asked to listen to the speaker and rearrange the letters to spell the word they hear, determine which word has been said, and find the speaker that says a given word.

Closing
Students will explain how being able to build and read sight words makes them a stronger reader. Ask students to spell the words. Finally, students will color sight words.
