Learning objective

Students will be able to identify the three states and four forms of volcanoes and understand the hazards they create.

Introduction

Ask students what they would see out the window if they were flying in a plane above the room they are in. Next, ask what they would see if the plane flew higher? The higher up they go above the Earth's surface, the more they can see the geographical features of the planet.

Instruction

Explain to students that volcanoes played a big part in forming the Earth's crust. Explain the three states and four types of volcanoes. There will be activities for students to test their knowledge about volcanoes.

Quiz

Students will respond to ten true/false and multiple-choice questions.

Closing

Students will recall what they learned:
- What are the three states of a volcano and the four different forms of volcanoes?
- Discuss the hazards caused by volcanic activity.
