This is the fourth lesson in a series of lessons about Lewis and Clark. In this lesson, your students will review what they have learned so far about the expedition of Lewis and Clark. Next, discuss the portage around The Great Falls and Sacagawea’s reuniting with her long-lost brother! The material covers when Lewis and Clark were given horses and a Shoshone guide to lead them across the Rockies and when they crossed over the Continental Divide of the Americas.

Introduction
To start this lesson about the Lewis and Clark Expedition, the students will review what they have learned so far. Next, the class will engage in a quick memory refresher activity by putting events in the correct sequence. Discuss how the crew was forced to carry their canoes and equipment for 25 miles overland to avoid the Great Falls of the Missouri and when Sacagawea spotted Beaverhead Rock, which was a sign that the crew was near the home of Sacagawea's relatives, the Shoshone tribe. Students will then have an opportunity to discuss their own personal experiences with being far away from home.
Instruction
Explain how Sacagawea is reunited with her brother, the chief of the Shoshone tribe and that Lewis and Clark were given much-needed horses and a Shoshone guide to lead them across the Rockies. The expedition crosses over the Great Divide. The students will engage in an activity of labeling the oceans and the direction of currents on each side of the divide.
