In this lesson, students will learn the difference between rules and laws, and explore why we have them in place.

Introduction
Students will discuss what rules are and why we have them. They will also discuss how rules can prevent conflict. They will then sort rules into the categories: safety, order, and conflict.

Instruction
Students will learn what laws are and compare them to rules they have to follow in school. They will sort laws into these categories: safety, order, and conflict. They will then discuss the rules they have to follow at home and at school, as well as laws they have to follow in the community. Students will also categorize statements as rules or laws. They will also discuss consequences for not following rules or laws.
