7 Reasons to Use Your Interactive Whiteboard

As you know we’re a big fan of the interactive whiteboard, but for those that aren’t so convinced we put together a few reasons why an interactive whiteboard is an essential part of your classroom apparatus:

1. Interactivity

The joy with a smart board is that you can do pretty much anything you can do with a computer screen, but the exciting feature is the interactivity. It allows you (or learners) to look something up on the screen and interact with it directly (e.g. hide the answers for them to find). A great option is to have the educator at the front of the class at the board, with the opportunity to invite students up to interact with the interactive activities on the interactive whiteboard.

2. Save lessons

Another great feature of an interactive whiteboard is the ability to save the lessons that you have written on the board. The digital ink on the board and the lesson that you have just been through can be sent to learners (or those that have been sick) so that they can easily keep up-to-date with the progress. (this also has impact for distance learning)

3. Video

Video is a great addition to your lesson. The impact for demonstrations is great, as you can showcase things, which are difficult to simulate. Video is a very powerful and illustrative medium to communicate. In Gynzy for example, YouTube and TeacherTube are integrated directly in the interactive whiteboard software.

4. Preparation

It allows you to prepare entire lessons. You can use your interactive whiteboard to create presentations that can then be viewed with your class. My experience is that you are much more relaxed and able to discuss when the content is already created and waiting to be opened. (and it also allows you to re-use presentations).

5. Shared reading

Shared reading lessons. The entire class can read in conjunction with the board, following the correct pace.

6. Accommodate different learning styles

The board can accommodate different learning styles. Tactile learners can benefit from touching and correction at the board, audio learners can have the class discussion, visual learners can see what is taking place as it develops at the board.

7. Students love it

Most importantly students love it. It is a magnet for children to interact with, as it is something different from the norm.

Why do you use your interactive whiteboard? Can you think of any more good reasons? Let us know in the comments below.
